A Virtual Reality “Memory Palace”

Aids Knowledge Retrieval

We present an evaluation of using virtual reality techniques to assist in research knowledge retrieval. Our analyses of recall and recognition performance show that using a virtual reality memory

palace significantly increases the amount of knowledge retrieved and retained over both other conditions. Anecdotal and subjective

feedback from participants suggested that personalizing the memory palace would be appreciated. Our results support the value of

virtual reality for some high-level cognitive tasks and may help improve future applications of virtual reality and visualization
